Toxic dilation and perforation of the colon in the early period of ulcerative colitis: a clinical case

Abstract

Inflammatory bowel diseases, including ulcerative colitis, are one of the topical problems of modern gastroenterology. The significance of this diseases is due to both the diversity and nonspecificity of the clinical signs at the start of the disease, and the complexity of laboratory and instrumental diagnosis and subsequent personalized therapy administration. The start and subsequent course of inflammatory bowel diseases are accompanied by the risk of specific complications, including life-threatening complications that require disabling surgery and in some cases lead to death. This article presents a clinical case of ulcerative colitis in the early period of the disease course, with the development of a series of life-threatening complications and subsequent lethal outcome, despite the full therapy and surgery, including the use of biologics.
