Abstract
Statins are being actively introduced into clinical use, since they represent an opportunity to reduce the risk of development and progression of cardiovascular diseases. Mechanisms of action of statins, their hypolipidemic and pleiotropic effects, routes of exposure to the functional state of the endothelium have been discussed. The use of statins in combination therapy of cardiovascular diseases is able to slow down the progression of cardiovascular diseases.
